RETRADE-SA MPA Phase 1: Zambia - Tanzania Interconnector

Regional Energy Transmission, Trade and Decarbonization Project in Southern Africa (RETRADE-SA) Phase 1: Zambia - Tanzania Interconnector Project includes the following key construction features:

  • Tanzania section: 620 km (Iringa to Sumbawanga/Zambian border). Primary line: 400 kV double-circuit (Tanzania section)
  • Zambia section: ~600 km (Kabwe to Tanzanian border), with additional segments like the 200 km Mpika-Kasama 330kV line. Zambia’s upgrades: 330 kV lines (Kabwe-Tanzania border)
  • Double-circuit configuration for enhanced reliability and capacity.
