Banana Deep Sea Port, DR Congo
- Build a deepwater port in phases in the Kongo Central province along the Atlantic coast
- The port will become the DRC’s single maritime gateway for containerised cargo
- The first phase is designed to accommodate the world’s largest vessels and will see the construction of a 600-metre quay, 18-metre draught, handling capacity of 450,000 TEUs (6 million standard containers) a year and storage area of 30 hectares
- The second phase will extend the quay wall by over 2 km
- The port will be connected via a network of additional infrastructure, including a free zone and multimodal logistics infrastructure, to the country’s largest urban centres, namely the capital city Kinshasa and the cities of Boma and Matadi
- The construction of the Banana port will involve several companies, including local enterprises, and is expected to enable the creation of about 85,000 jobs, along with US$1.1 billion in additional trade and US$429m in increased economic output a year
