Technical Design

• Construct a 605 km 400 kV double-circuit transmission line to interconnect the Ugandan and Tanzanian national grids along with associated 400 kV substations
• Specifically, approximately 80 km of line and associated 400 kV substations will be built at Masaka and Mutukula in Uganda, and about 525 km of line and associated substations at Kyaka, Nyakanazi and Mabuki in Tanzania
• The project will directly serve approximately 15 million people in the wider reaches of the transmission line corridor
• This strategic corridor is part of the East African Power Pool (EAPP) infrastructure development plan to enhance electricity trade between the East African Community (EAC) member states. The project will create a critical link in the high voltage transmission backbone around Lake Victoria, facilitating power exchange and supporting regional economic integration
