Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway, Kenya
- Widen the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway under a public-private partnership (PPP) model
- The scheme aims to improve connectivity to Kenya’s Rift Valley, Western Kenya regions and beyond
- The Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit road forms part of the A8 highway and of the Northern Corridor that connects the Port of Mombasa via Nairobi to Malaba at the border with Uganda and onwards to Kampala
- Work on the Rironi-Mau Summit road will involve the widening of a 175 km section of the A8 highway between Rironi and Mau Summit into a four-lane dual carriageway. There is potential for future augmentation of the road into a six-lane carriageway if traffic volumes increase
- The scope of work involves building two additional lanes on one side, service roads for selected township areas and tracks for non-motorised traffic in built-up areas as per the design
- The Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway project also includes the strengthening of 58 km of the A8 South highway between Rironi and Naivasha. The scope of work involves the improvement of pavement and rehabilitation of shoulders for the existing carriageway
- The design includes work on three interchanges, three pedestrian overpasses, 35 underpasses for pedestrian/cattle, three vehicular underpasses, two railway overpasses and four railway underpasses along with one foot over-bridge
- The project includes operation and maintenance (O&M) of the existing A8 road from Rironi to Mau Summit, and strengthening and O&M of the existing 57.8 km two-lane A8 South from Rironi to Naivasha
- The project is procured as a 30-year PPP concession
