The construction scope of the Green Energy Corridors Project in Mozambique includes strengthening and expanding the country’s high-voltage transmission infrastructure to support the evacuation, transmission, and trade of renewable electricity at scale. Specifically, this encompasses the construction and upgrading of major north–south transmission lines and associated substations, including new or reinforced 400kV and 220kV lines to connect previously isolated northern, central, and southern electricity systems.
The project scope includes upgrades to nodes such as Songo and Matambo substations, and integration with key regional interconnectors—including those leading to Malawi and Zambia—to enhance domestic supply and cross-border electricity trade. In addition, the scope covers grid readiness investments for future utility-scale renewable energy plants and technical assistance for system operations, sector governance, and enabling private investments in renewables and transmission assets. Collectively, these interventions are designed to increase network reliability, accommodate future renewable electricity generation, and position Mozambique as a Southern Africa regional electricity hub.
