Rehabilitation & Creation of Cross-Border Centres as Multi-Service Logistics Zones (Trans-Maghreb Corridor). This project aims to modernize and transform key border crossings along the Trans-Maghreb Corridor into integrated, multi-service logistics zones. Rather than simple border posts, these sites will be redeveloped into efficient hubs for trade, customs, and transport, facilitating smoother movement of goods and people between Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya. By upgrading infrastructure and harmonizing cross-border procedures, the initiative seeks to reduce transit delays, lower trade costs, and promote regional economic integration across the Maghreb.
- Build integrated border management facilities (customs, immigration, inspection) under a “single window” model.
- Deploy digital trade documentation systems to streamline paperwork and data sharing among border agencies.
- Install non-intrusive inspection technologies (scanners, x-ray) for freight inspection.
- Establish automated entry/exit systems for vehicles and people.
- Develop commercial logistics zones (warehouses, distribution centers) of ~15–30 hectares per border complex.
- Provide cold chain infrastructure to handle perishable goods.
- Create truck parking and services areas, with dedicated lanes for different categories (commercial, passenger, pre-approved operators).
- Ensure intermodal connectivity (road, potentially rail) where applicable.
- Incorporate sustainable energy systems, e.g., solar power, for facility operations.
- Provide water and waste management systems at logistics zones.
