The Dakar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Pilot Project is a flagship sustainable mobility initiative designed to modernize public transportation in Senegal’s capital through the creation of a high-capacity, fully electric bus network.
Spanning roughly 18.3 kilometers from Petersen Bus Station in Dakar city center to Guédiawaye in the suburbs, the system includes 23 stations, dedicated BRT lanes, and associated depots and maintenance facilities. The project aims to significantly reduce travel times, congestion, and greenhouse gas emissions in a metropolitan area that concentrates nearly half of Senegal’s population and up to 80% of the nation’s economic activity.
The project scope also includes road safety awareness, resettlement programs, institutional capacity building for CETUD (the implementing agency), and infrastructure designed for long-term climate resilience and urban integration
