The Gbarnga–Mendikorma Highway is a road infrastructure project in north-western Liberia intended to upgrade, pave, and rehabilitate highway sections connecting Gbarnga (in Bong County) through Salayea, Konia, Voinjama, up to Mendikorma (in Lofa County). The highway is meant to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, lower transportation costs for people and goods, foster agricultural development, enhance social service access (schools, health, markets), and facilitate cross-border trade with Guinea and Sierra Leone.
- Pavement/upgrade to asphalt standard for multiple highway sections (formerly gravel or earth roads).
- Rehabilitation of Gbarnga–Salayea (~81 km) section; works include drainage, road base strengthening, bridges and culverts, environmental protection, shoulders.
- Extension of Lot 1 of the project: Gbarnga → Konia (~137 km), subdivided into:
• Section A: Gbarnga to Salayea (~81 km)
• Section B: Salayea to Konia (~50-56 km) - Planning/funding mobilization for further sections: Voinjama to Mendikorma (after Konia), and pavement of the Salayea-Voinjama stretch (~114 km) is being prioritized.
- Asphalt overlay in existing paved areas; addition of an extra layer on certain sections.
- Associated works: drainage, bridges, access roads, safety measures.
