Dilolo–Kolwezi–Tenke Railway Rehabilitation, DRC

Context & Strategic Purpose

  • The rehabilitation forms part of the Lobito Corridor, a regional trade/rail/port infrastructure initiative linking mineral-rich areas in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through Angola’s railway network to the Port of Lobito on the Atlantic coast. This corridor aims to reduce transport costs, transit times, and improve export efficiency especially for minerals like copper and cobalt.
  • The Dilolo-Kolwezi-Tenke segment is key for connecting the Katanga region (in DRC) inland mines to the border with Angola, where the Lobito Atlantic Railway will take over.
