The Boosting Inclusive Growth for Zanzibar: Integrated Development Project aims to increase access to improved living conditions and service delivery in targeted areas of Zanzibar while enhancing the institutional capacity of the government.
This initiative focuses on area-based, integrated urban and infrastructure development—including upgrades to basic services such as drainage, water supply, street lighting, public spaces, markets, roads, and mobility—across the main islands of Unguja and Pemba.
The project also invests in strengthening core urban management institutions, encouraging digital innovation in municipal finance and urban planning, providing support and training to local businesses (with a special focus on women and tourism), and building climate resilience. Implementation includes robust community engagement and emphasizes the creation of jobs, institutional reforms, and knowledge transfer to foster sustainable, inclusive urban growth for Zanzibar.
