The Greater Cairo Air Pollution Management and Climate Change Project is a comprehensive six-year initiative. It aims to significantly reduce air pollution and climate emissions in the Greater Cairo metropolitan area, including Cairo, Giza, and Qalyoubia Governorates.
The project focuses primarily on two major pollution sources: solid waste management and vehicle emissions. Its scope encompasses enhancing the air quality management and response systems through improved monitoring, capacity building, and emergency response planning; operationalizing solid waste management master plans by developing and upgrading infrastructure, including an integrated waste management facility in 10th of Ramadan City; reducing vehicle emissions by piloting electric buses and related infrastructure in the public transport sector; and fostering behavioral change and community engagement to support sustainable environmental practices.
