The Benin Electricity Access Scale-up (BEAS) Project focuses on on-grid electrification, targeting urban and peri-urban areas with high population densities within approximately 7 km from existing networks.
It plans to construct or rehabilitate at least 2,000 km of medium voltage lines and 4,000 km of low voltage lines, adding about 100,000 kVA of transformer capacity to connect roughly 150,000 households (with 25% female-headed), 1,000 businesses (20% women-led), and about 500 public institutions such as schools and clinics. In addition, approximately 20,000 public lighting points will be installed.
The project also supports policy and regulatory reforms to implement the national electrification strategy and includes technical assistance to strengthen institutional capacity and promote gender inclusiveness in electricity access and employment.
