Lessos-Loosuk Power Transmission Line, Kenya

  • Build the 179 km 400 kV Lessos-Loosuk transmission line
  • The work includes building a new 400 kV switch station at Loosuk and a substation extension at Lessos
  • The project will be undertaken as part of the Power Transmission Lines and Substations project jointly sponsored by Africa50 and Power Grid Corporation of India. The project is being undertaken under a PPP Model: Design-Build-Finance-Maintain (DBFM)
  • The government will act as an anchor off-taker or guarantor of payments through transmission use charges, providing predictable, regulated revenue streams over the project life cycle
  • The PPP model ensures participation from experienced private developers while maintaining state oversight through Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) and the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA)
  • The Power Transmission Lines and Substations project includes a 64 km 220kV transmission line from Kisumu to Musaga and together, both schemes are valued at US$311 million
