Central African Pipeline System (CAPS)
- The Central African Pipeline System (CAPS) project is the joint project of Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) countries to build an estimated 6,500 km of pipelines link the ECCAS states
- The network will include a wide variety of infrastructure such as LNG Pipelines, Fuel Pipelines, Pumping Stations, LNG Terminals, Power Plants, Oil Refineries and Storage Depots, which will link production areas to regional markets and support economic integration
- CAPS' main objective is the transportation, storage and distribution of fuel products and LNG for electricity production
- The CAPS will help supply the future industrial hubs of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), such as refineries, gas processing plants and power generation plants
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by seven ECCAS countries, namely Burundi, Cameroon, CAR, Chad, DRC, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Republic of the Congo and Rwanda to initiate this project
- The CAPS team has signed an MoU with the African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation (APPO) and Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) on the project
- The full feasibility study is currently underway, with completion expected in 2026
