The Eskom Just Energy Transition (JET) project aims to transform the country’s electricity sector by decommissioning aging coal-fired power stations—beginning with the Komati Power Station—and repowering them with renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and battery storage.
The scope of the project includes dismantling old coal infrastructure, developing and constructing new renewable power plants, upgrading national transmission and distribution networks, piloting electric vehicle (EV) bus programs, and establishing training centers to reskill former coal workers.
