Sustainable Energy and Broadband Access in Rural Mozambique

The Sustainable Energy and Broadband Access in Rural Mozambique Project is a major initiative aimed at expanding access to electricity and broadband services in rural and peri-urban areas, while also strengthening the financial performance of Mozambique’s power sector.

  • Peri-urban and Rural Electrification: This involves grid densification and expansion to provide electricity access to over 1 million beneficiaries by electrifying households, businesses, and public facilities
  • Improvement of Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) Financial Performance: Measures to enhance EDM’s financial and operational performance and support policy reforms, including leveraging EDM’s fiber-optic network to support broadband development
  • Technical Assistance and Implementation Support: Capacity building and implementation support for agencies such as EDM, the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), the National Energy Fund (FUNAE), and the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC)
