Borana Resilient Water Development for Improved Livelihoods Program Phase 2, Ethiopia

The Borana Resilient Water Development for Improved Livelihoods Program (Phase 2) is a major initiative in Ethiopia’s Borana Zone (Oromia Region) aimed at improving access to climate-resilient, gender-sensitive, integrated, and sustainable water and sanitation services for pastoralist communities. 

  • Development of groundwater sources (notably the Gelchet wellfield)
  • Construction of main transmission lines from wells to reservoirs
  • Building of command reservoirs (e.g., at Simu Hilltop near Yabello Town)
  • Construction of motor houses, guard houses, and related facilities
  • Water supply routes: Arero, Dubluk, Surupha, Elweya, Weib, Sarite-Sabba, and Wellfield Area routes
  • Institutional capacity strengthening and integrated watershed management, including community-led soil and water conservation
