The Malawi Roads Authority (RA), established in 2006 by an Act of Parliament, is mandated to oversee public road construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation. Operating under the Ministry of Works and Public Infrastructure, the RA manages the national road network, while various Road Agencies, including the RA, Districts, and Local Councils, oversee different road classes. The RA specifically manages Main, Secondary, and Tertiary roads nationwide, dividing the network across Administrative Regions and operating three regional offices — North, South, and Centre — to ensure efficient management in each region. Additionally, the Lilongwe-based Head Office focuses on policy development and strategic initiatives.
